Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if an accountant is qualified & why does it matter?
The term accountant isn’t regulated, and anyone can call themselves an accountant.
Most qualified accountants in England are members of one of the following bodies;
- Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA or FCCA)
- Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ACA or FCA)
- Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland/Ireland (CA/ICA)
An accountant that is a member of one of these bodies must practice under the rules and standards set by the professional bodies. The client is able to go back to these bodies should the accountant not provide a satisfactory service.
They are required to hold a practicing certificate, for which they have to prove they have the necessary experience & training. They must continue with their training & make an annual return to the professional bodies to show they have done this. They must also have professional indemnity insurance.
Can I become a client if I am not local?
With modern technology & cloud based software, I can work with you no matter where you are located.
Is changing accountants difficult?
No, I can do most of the work for you once you have provided me with a few basic details.
How do I know how much I will pay?
All fees are agreed upfront & in writing, so you know exactly what you will pay & when.
For any additional work, fees will be agreed before commencement. I can work on an hourly basis or for a fixed fee, which ever suits you best.
I already have a bookkeeper, can you still help?
Yes, I can work with your existing bookkeeper & simply prepare your year end accounts & tax return.
Or I can prepare everything for you, from bookkeeping, vat returns & payroll, through to your annual accounts & tax return.
What software should I use?
I am experienced with a range of software products. I can help you select an appropriate one based on cost, volume of transactions & level of detail you need from your accounts.
